2015 Cow Day's theme:  Bringing Back the Good Ol' Days

Parade Date/Time:

The Cow Days parade will be held on Saturday, September 19, at 2:00 pm, in downtown Dixon.  Anyone participating in a judged category (floats, horse & rider, and team & wagon), should be at the Dixon High School parking lot ready for judging NO LATER THAN 1:00 pm.  All other parade entrants should be there no later than 1:30 pm. Parade entrants (excluding ATVs, emergency vehicles, & bands) will be given an entry form to fill out when you arrive.  Please fill it out so that details about your entry can be announced over the public address system as you pass the main stage.  For judged entrants, the trophy won will be written at the top of the form.  Please be ready to hand off your entry form to the parade runner right before you get to the main stage (along the parade route).

Parade Float Design:

The float design should portray a period in the past that is considered significantly different than the present, such as a general representation of a bygone era, or it may depict something specific to Dixon's past.  Go back in time as far as you like - such as the 1920s/30s/40s/50s, 100 years ago, or even 150 to 200 years ago to the Old West/American frontier.  Floats should have a sign with their slogan so the judges know how the float décor ties in with the cow days theme.  Floats will be judged in the categories of:  parade theme, originality, workmanship, and showmanship.     

Float categories HIGH SCHOOL CLASS FLOATS, COMMERCIAL FLOATS, &  NON-COMMERCIAL FLOATS (Churches & non-profit groups)

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded in each category.  Floats should be at the high school ready for judging no later than 1:00 pm on Saturday, Sept 19.  JUDGING WILL START PROMPTLY AT 1:00 PM REGARDLESS OF WHETHER FLOAT IS READY OR NOT.  Please have your parade entry form available for the judges to write the trophy won.  If your organization/business plans to do a float, email Lisa at campbell88@windstream.net or call 573-528-2670. 

Equestrian Categories:  HORSE & RIDER (ADULT), HORSE & RIDER (YOUTH), and  TEAM & WAGON

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies will be awarded in the horse and rider categories.  1st and 2nd place trophies will be awarded in the team and wagon category.  PLEASE BE READY FOR JUDGING NO LATER THAN 1:00 PM ON SATURDAY, SEPT 19. 
Equestrian entrants do not need to contact the Chamber of Commerce prior to the parade.

Parking & Parade Line-up:  To enable an orderly parade line-up, a barricade will be set-up on High School Drive (near the intersection of High School Dr. and S.Pearl St.) to control traffic into the high school parking lot.  There will be no parking of personal vehicles at the high school unless you are a high school band member or teacher.  Parking passes will be provided to teachers and band students prior to Cow Days for parking behind the high school.  Temporary parking passes will be provided as needed to those delivering props/equipment for a parade entry and to parents delivering small children to ride in the parade.  If you are dropping people off, you may drop them off at the barricade and exit on S. Pearl Street.  Others should park their personal vehicles behind the VFW building.

Parade Sequence:

Floats, bands, walking units, vehicles, etc., will be spread throughout the parade.  Four-footed units will be at the end of the parade.  Please maintain a two-car length between your entry and the entry in front of you.

Candy Tossing:

For the safety of our children along the parade route, please do not throw candy down to the roadway next to your vehicle.  Please toss as far to the side of the road as possible (so that children are not running toward the vehicle/floats to pick up the candy).
